It was one heck of a wait, but EJ was finally shot on last Thursday’s Days of Our Lives. He survived (for now) but had to be put in a coma while he recovered. And that’s a shame, because he clearly saw who shot him!

We, however, are clueless. And in the days that have followed — and we’re sure in the days to come — word of his shooting has been rippling throughout Salem to all the innocent bystanders and the countless suspects!

Kristen, Johnny, Paulina, Chanel, Gabi, Rafe, Jada, Roman, Kate — they’ve all had their moments of suspicion upon learning the news, and we’ve still got suspects to get through! Belle, for instance is talking to Brady and we’re willing to bet she’s lacking in an alibi just as much as everyone else!

When we spoke with Martha Madison and asked her about the mystery, she was not letting much spill! “I don’t want to give too much away because the story’s so good,” Belle’s portrayer laughed.

“I want it to play out! Everybody has a reason to do it, and also a reason to defend themselves. So, I think it’s a really great story. I’m so excited for everyone to see the whole thing. It’s a big story and it’s fun.”

As she put it, “Everyone’s a red herring, right? Everybody has some reason they’d like to see EJ dead.” And yes, that very much includes Belle!

Everyone can’t be a red herring, though, can they? One of the suspects had to have done it. Right? Maybe… But it could also end up being someone we’d never have expected!

Like any good mystery, we’re going to be taken on a journey of suspicion and discovery. As Madison shared, “I think that there are many times when you’ll feel like you know who did it — but I don’t want to give too much away because the story is so good.”

And it sounds like it’s going to be massive. In fact, don’t expect it to wrap too quickly, Madison warns, saying that we’ll be “watching that story play out over weeks and maybe months, even. It’s a really well crafted story.”

Well, if we’re talking months for this story to play out, it +could go well into the new writers’ material, which starts airing in just over two weeks, on April 24th! And that means this story could go anywhere. If it’s crafted even half as well as Madison says it is, we’re in for one fun ride.
