Sad New!! The Role Of Dex Has Ended, Evan Hofer Says His Final Goodbye To Fans! GH Spoilers
It’s a bad day for “Jex” fans: General Hospital leading man Evan Hofer has left his role of Dex Heller.
When the character was stabbed in the December 10 episode — in the back, no less! — viewers panicked. Only after we were assured that he’d be OK did our hearts resume beating at their normal rhythm.
But then, ack! In the show that aired, appropriately, on Friday the 13th, Dex went into cardiac arrest and — nooo! — died.
Hofer joined the cast on a recurring basis in the spring of 2022, and once the show saw his chemistry with Eden McCoy (Josslyn), he was signed to a contract. Since then, their characters had been put through the wringer — a lot.
But storyline for the twosome seemed to dry up recently — odd, considering that in the wake of Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s departure and the end of “Sprina,” Dex and Josslyn were the only young couple left on the show.
Hofer’s exit comes at the tail end of a year of great change for General Hospital. In January, headwriters Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor were replaced by Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey.
Four months later, Mulcahey was out. A few weeks after that, Van Etten was brought back to write with Korte.
The cast has also been shaken up over and over again. First, it turned out that Chavez would not be returning as Spencer Cassadine after all.
Then Jagger Cates was recast with Adam J. Harrington and killed off. Gregory Harrison’s Gregory Chase was sent to the morgue along with vet Kelly Monaco’s Sam McCall. Jacqueline Grace Lopez was blindsided by Blaze’s unexpected exit.
Michael Easton’s Hamilton Finn scrubbed out for the last time, taking Jophielle Love with him as daughter Violet.
Scott Reeves reprised his role of Steven Webber just long enough to usher Alley Mills’ Heather off the canvas.
Emma Samms came back as Holly Sutton and stuck a fork in Sasha and Cody’s romance by revealing that they’re cousins.
Jonathan Jackson winged his way home to Port Charles as Lucky Spencer and got a new sister in Alexa Havins, who was tasked with waking up comatose Lulu. Van Hansis picked up where Ryan Carnes left off as Lucas Jones…
