Cameron Mathison in Tears as He Recounts ‘Nothing Left’ After House Burned in Fire
A wildfire raging through the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles has forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate as it consumes homes in the ritzy area, including those belonging to celebrities.
The Palisades Fire, driven by strong Santa Ana winds, began in the Santa Monica Mountains late Tuesday morning and quickly engulfed 200 acres within an hour, surging to nearly 3,000 acres by sunset, FOX Weather reported.
Orange County Fire Chief Brian Fennessy joined “Fox News @ Night” on Tuesday to give an update on how firefighters are battling the fast-moving flames, but said there isn’t much that can be done to stop them, so crews are focusing on evacuating and rescuing anyone still in the area.
“Our main focus is getting people, lives out of the way of these fires,” Fennessy said. “There’s not a lot we can do other than get people out of the way of these fires and then try to attack them … certainly in the Palisades, that’s been the story today.”
“General Hospital” actor Cameron Mathison, who evacuated the area on Tuesday, shared a video on Instagram of his property, completely decimated by the fire.
“We are safe But this is what’s left of our beautiful home,” he wrote. “Our home where our kids were raised and where they wanted to raise their own someday. “Thanks to all who reached out and checked in. Can’t respond to all so wanted to give an update here.”
Reality TV star Spencer Pratt and wife Heidi Montag lost their home in the Palisades Fire, Pratt and Montag confirmed on their Snapchat accounts Tuesday.
In a series of videos, “The Hills” star showed how the fire quickly moved over the hill toward their property.
“Well, this isn’t looking good,” Pratt said while videoing the fire on the mountain behind their home. “First time I’ve seen the flames coming over. Aw, man. Okay, I’m going to go pack up I think.”
California is under a state emergency as it battles wildfires that have already claimed two lives — and now General Hospital star Cameron Mathison (Drew Quartermaine) has revealed a heartbreaking update about his own home.
California Wildfires Wreak Havoc
“We are safe,” Mathison began the caption that accompanied a video reel on Instagram, “but this is what’s left of our beautiful home.
Our home where our kids were raised and where they wanted to raise their own someday.” In the video, he shows what remains of his once beautiful house, and a lone water feature that was left standing.
Yesterday, the actor posted a video to his Instagram Stories showing sunny skies juxtaposed against the blustering wind in his neighborhood.
Several hours later, as night fell, he posted another video, this time of raging fires, and wrote, “Thank you for all the love and concern,” adding, “We have evacuated and are safe. Prayers that everyone can say the same.”
The actor wrote about the outpouring of support that he has received from others. “Thanks to all who reached out and checked in.
Can’t respond to all so wanted to give an update here,” he wrote before adding, “Sending so many prayers to everyone being affected by these fires.”
Mathison, who last summer revealed his split from wife Vanessa Mathison (ex-Mia, GH), purchased the house in 2012. The Mathisons told the Los Angeles Times that year, “We are looking forward to living in this home for the next 30 years.”
The couple share two children, son Lucas and daughter Leila, both of whom study overseas; Lucas is England at Central St Martins at the University of the Arts London, studying fashion design, while Leila is studying psychology at American University in Paris.
Lucas was back at school after being home for the holidays. Leila was still in town, though not at the house, having also been home for the recent holidays.
GH co-star Laura Wright (Carly) commented on Mathison’s post, “Oh I’m so so sorry my dear friend. Thank god you are all safe.” Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) echoed, “So very sorry pal. Unreal.”
“I love you ,” wrote Alicia Minshew, Mathison’s former All My Children love interest (she played Kendall Hart to his Ryan Lavery).
Another AMC alum, Aiden Turner (ex-Aidan), posted, “So sorry Cam, awful situation for you and everyone there. Glad you are safe and Alive brother .”
Candace Cameron Bure, who works with Mathison on movies for Great American Family, wrote, “Love you ❤️ we are here for you.”
Former The Wonder Years star Danica McKellar, Mathison’s co-star in the Hallmark movie Very, Very Valentine, commented, “Praying hard for you and everyone affected!! ” Former Days of our Lives star Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa) wrote, “Oh my God! Im so sorry. This is so awful.”
