General Hospital Spoilers: Charles Mesure Was Fired With A Phone Call, Shocking Reason For Firing

General Hospital (GH) spoilers suggest viewers continue to reel over the recent shocking casting news coming out of the soap where the role of Jack Brennan is concerned.

GH made the announcement in the afternoon and everyone has had the same thoughts cross their minds, since: what’s the reason behind Charles Mesure’s sudden departure from the soap, and why did GH choose Chris McKenna as the new Brennan?

Here’s what we know about the situation, so far.

Was Charles Mesure Fired Or Did He Quit?

As per a report from Soap Opera Digest, Mesure decided to leave GH on his own. The soap probably went back and forth on whether the character should exit in a blaze of glory or be recast, and they went with the later decision.

GH has been known for hiring soap opera vets with their past few character recasts, so it isn’t overly surprising that Chris McKenna was chosen to step into the role.

He entered the world of suds in 1990 at the age of 12, jumping into the role of Joey Buchanan on One Life to Life (OLTL).

He was also on The Young and the Restless (Y&R) from 2014 to 2015 playing Mark Harding and had a quickie stint on The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) in 2016 as therapist Dr. Hayden.

McKenna had a chat with TV Insider about heading to GH, noting it felt like home from the get-go. This is not only because he once again gets to work with Executive Producer, Frank Valentini, who was EP during his time at OLTL, the GH sets have some of the same writers, directors, and camera guys from his days at OLTL. This made it a breeze for him to get comfortable on the set, fast.

When Can Fans Expect To See Chris McKenna On GH?

McKenna also stated that the hiring process was quite quick, during his TV Insider interview. On Sunday, Frank had called him in for a chemistry test with Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) and by Tuesday, he was in the studio.

Of course, he ran into Laura off the bat. While it had been about 30 years since he had seen her, they caught up, and Wright wished him good luck.

McKenna had a good feeling about how the audition went, since Valentini told him after the fact, “You were not this good when you were 12.” He ended up scoring the part, and the rest is history! Fans can expect to see Chris McKenna step into Brennan’s shoes as of Tuesday, February 4.
