Though we aren’t quite sure when, just yet, General Hospital assured us long ago when Valentin first fled Port Charles that he would be back.
He’s been on the run ever since, though, only popping up here and there. Most recently, Lulu managed to track him and Charlotte down, but that encounter went disastrously wrong and ended with Brennan explaining to Carly that his and Val’s friendship was as good as dead in the water. But Charlotte’s mom isn’t letting up that easily, and she’s still determined to find her daughter and Valentin once again.
But what will he return to? When you get right down to it, he’s had two roles on the show: the villain, and the charming rogue. And both of those character types are already filled.
Valentin’s former pal, Jack Brennan is the troublemaking charmer. Occasionally ruthless and unpredictable, we still can’t help but like him, especially as he and Carly ramp up the sparks. Heck, that was how Valentin went from the most terrifying of Cassadines to have staying power. He and Nina were red hot and as their relationship was explored, Val mellowed and we grew to love him.
Meanwhile, Sidwell has taken over the role of string-pulling villain — even going as far as to move into Val’s former home, Wyndemere and Spoon Island! Heck, he even came to town after tussling with Lucky, much like the Cassadines did in battling Luke.
So what’s a sometimes baddie to do when he gets back to town? Well, he could always show Sidwell why, for much of his life, he was the Cassadine who even Helena was afraid of. In fact, with Sidwell already on thin ice with Jack, Valentin could use this as an opportunity to make nice with his former friend and take out Port Charles’ newest villain once and for all.
That doesn’t mean Valentin would have to take his place as Port Charles’ big bad, of course, but it could help re-establish himself as a force to be reckoned with on the side of good! Heck, maybe that could be Valentin’s new role. If he can clear his name, maybe he could join the side of angels, unambiguously this time, and work with his love, Anna, at the PCPD.
OK… maybe not. This is Valentin Cassadine we’re talking about here. But at the end of the day, while we’re not sure exactly what his role will be on returning to town, Valentin’s reinvented himself enough times over the years, we’ve got faith that he can do so again.
