The Return of General Hospital’s [Spoiler] Hints at a Major Shake-Up in Port Charles
It’s not just the nip in the air that will be sending chills down our spines in the days ahead on General Hospital: Ms. Wu is back in action this week, Soap Opera Digest reports. And where she goes, trouble follows.
The timing of the lady mobster’s return is particularly intriguing, coming as it does on the heels of the explosion at Sonny’s penthouse that left Michael in dire straits.
If Selina is behind the attack, she might as well start deciding what outfit pairs best with cement shoes, because there will be no corner of Port Charles in which she can hide. Sonny will put her in the grave even faster than he did Cates!
Back before Brad told us that his aunt had decided he was a bad fit for “the business,” we would have hoped that he’d be pressed into service as the new head of the Triad. (It would’ve been a blast to see what the underused Parry Shen would do with his character as a Mob boss!) Now, though, Selina’s comeback — and possible punishment — suggests that a power vacuum may be about to open up in Port Charles.
With Sonny himself looking to get out of the Mafia — and there are lots of other things he could do (review the options here) — it isn’t likely that he would annex Selina’s turf. So who, then would take over?
One idea: Introduce One Life to Live’s Stephanie Hobart. Don’t remember her? In the early 1990s, she was taken in by her uncle, mafioso Carlo Hesser, whom she subsequently shot when she learned that he’d offed her FBI-informant father. She was sentenced to life in prison, but given soap-opera law, she’d probably be free and clear by now.
As it is, Stephanie was spirited away to Mexico without having to serve time!
Since portrayer Robyn Griggs passed away in 2022, the role would have to be recast. But that also opens the door to a radical reinvention of the character as a Mafia donna on par with Carly, Ava and the late Faith Rosco and Claudia Zacharra. Imagine what someone like Jessica Serfaty (ex-Sloan, Days of Our Lives), Katharine Isabelle (The Order) or Bethany Joy Lenz (Michelle, Guiding Light) would make of such a plum part!
